How to make the most our apartment

As soon as the good weather arrives we feel like enjoying it, and what better than to do it in an apartment next to the beach. It is important to take into account that, normally, apartments are smaller than our usual homes. That is why we must pay special attention to optimize the spaces and not to overdo it with furniture or decorations.

It is preferable to choose light furniture, which fulfills its function but without exceeding in volumes so as not to overload the space. We have to take into account that it is a second residence, we will not have to keep the same amount of things as in our usual home. It is very interesting to have a closet near the entrance that allows us to leave all those things that we take to the beach like chairs, umbrellas, etc.

It is important that the interior design of our apartment is focused on open areas and use neutral colors that give us clarity. For walls and ceilings we will opt for the tonality of white and, in floors, neutral tones such as sand or stone gray. That will allow us to give color with other elements but that the rooms seem more spacious.

We will use summer colors, for bedding or decorative elements, that bring us energy and joy. It is important to use in the decoration of our summer apartment colors that bring us freshness. The chromatic ranges of blues or greens are always a success, as well as the use of prints or stripes in cushions, bedding, etc.

A good option to decorate the walls of our small apartment is to use mirrors. Today there are many options on the market and their use will allow us to double the light of the room while decorating. Mirrors are also great allies when it comes to expand spaces thanks to its reflection effect that expands the depth. We can use a large mirror or several of different sizes depending on the style with which we identify ourselves more..

We also have to take into account the natural light so we will use white sheers or in soft colors that are lighter and let the natural light pass through. Another option is the roller blinds, they allow the light to pass through but prevent us from being seen from the other side and we continue to increase the brightness of the different rooms.

We must take advantage of every corner of our apartment to the maximum, especially if it is a small apartment. In the master bedroom of the apartment we designed on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea we did so. It was a space that allowed us, with a little imagination, to create an en suite bathroom with a hidden toilet area and a built-in closet. On that wall we placed an image of the sea to bring color and to enjoy it live or in image. The main bed was placed in front of the large window making a central partition at half height as a headboard and separator of spaces but keeping the entry of natural light throughout the room.

If we are going to undertake an integral reform of our apartment, the ideal would be to make it diaphanous, especially the day areas. If we remove the visual barriers we will create a much more spacious and versatile space. We will be able to expand the sea views while having fewer barriers in our apartment, turning limited areas into much larger versatile spaces. A good idea is to open the kitchen area to the living room with an island area that makes a bar so we can all enjoy the company on those days to enjoy.

Rooms in apartments are usually small but we can always optimize the space. A good idea is to use beds or bunk beds that are hidden during the day so we can use that space for other things, for example playing. We will need to use all the capacity we can with closets, that way everything will have its place and we will not have to worry about clutter. Multi-functional furniture is a plus in apartments, especially if they are small. Sofa beds, coffee tables that become dining tables, folding chairs, extendable tables, with all of them we will optimize the space. We have to keep in mind that the apartments are places where we gather several people or receive visitors so it is never too much that double function if we receive guests
